The Southern Baptist Homeschool Academy

After PMR, my parents made a rather difficult decision to home-school both Yen and I. Well, it may be a difficult decision, full of doubts initially, but to me, it was the wisest decision ever that would change my life completely. Save for the ‘fun’ I had in school plotting with classmates how to terrorize teachers, school was just another torture chamber. I did well enough to retain my seat in the first class. My mum would spend countless hours telling me it wasn’t that I was stupid or anything of that sort. Personally, I couldn’t care less even if I got straight As. The reason why I had the As that I had was peer pressure. So, when I heard we would be home-schooled, it was the best news ever.

Looking back, the past 7 years have been nothing short of fun, great learning time, and self-discovery. ‘School’ was conducted according to my pace and level. When my classmates were busy toiling and slogging over homework in school, I was in Melbourne for 3 weeks in one of our home-school training centers teaching children at a CI (Children’s Institute), helping with house-keeping and attending a Character! First Education course. It was then that I really found out my love for children. Over the 6 years, I have had the opportunity to meet many friends from all over the world, learned different cultures, taught many different children, worked in an international school, worked at my dad’s former workplace, learn to cook and bake, helped at Biblical Foundation trainings, taught parents and teachers, travelled, babysat, built a good relationship with my sister, and live. I cannot imagine how much I would have missed out in life had my parents not taken the step of faith to make the decision 6 years ago. Looking back, there were no regrets, none whatsoever.

Looking at the current trend now, more and more families are taking the step to home-school their children. Back then, being home-schooled was foreign to many, hence my parents faced some difficulty getting information on matters involving home education. Fret not for parents now as The Southern Baptist Academy Homeschool Program partners with homeschool parents to provide all children, paying close attention to those with special needs and learning styles, complete with access to a top-tier Christian education. The Southern Baptist Academy Homeschool Program believes that learning is not limited to just textbooks. This form of education is a teacher-led multimedia array of CD-ROMS, videos, audio files, web pages, traditional print materials, and more.
